N-acetyl-cysteine - precursor of L-cysteine
N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) is a precursor of L-cysteine and thus also of glutathione. After consumption, it is rapidly absorbed into the blood via the intestines and converted to cysteine in the liver. As a precursor of L-cysteine, NAC is more soluble in water and therefore more bioavailable than normal L-cysteine.
Vegan NAC
The N-acetyl-cysteine contained in this dietary supplement from Vitamintrend is of synthetic origin and therefore vegan. However, a majority of NAC supplements available on the market are not suitable for vegans. This is because NAC is traditionally obtained from animal products - for example, feathers. This not only contradicts the consumer desire for animal-free products, but the environment is also unnecessarily polluted by the conventional processes.
