Chaste tree (bot.: Vitex agnus-castus L.) is also known as monk's pepper, Abraham's balm, or lilac chaste tree. The plant has traditionally been used since the Middle Ages. It was particularly popular with monks who used the fruit as spices, among other things, which gave it the name "Monk's Pepper".
The original home of the monk's pepper is the northern Mediterranean region to southwest Asia.
