The fruits of the saw palmetto are traditionally used in alternative medicine.
Ingredients of the saw palmetto
The main components of the saw palmetto fruits are phytosterols. Other ingredients include fatty oil with free fatty acids and flavonoids.
The fatty acids contain caproic acid, caprylic acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid. In the case of phytosterols, beta-sitosterol (also: �-sitosterol) makes up the majority.
