Functional mushrooms have been used in the traditional medicine for centuries. Reishi is found worldwide and grows mainly on deciduous trees. Its favorite tree to grow on is the oak.
Unlike shiitake or pleurotus (oyster mushroom), reishi is a purely functional mushroom and is not considered an edible mushroom. Its consistency is hard and it has a bitter taste.
Active substances
The Reishi mushroom is a natural source of about 400 active substances, which include about 150 triterpenes, 100 polysaccharides, proteins, nucleotides, sterols, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. The content varies depending on the location and climate in which the mushroom grows.
